Yixing Tea Set 1

Yixing (pronounced yee-shing) is a region within Jiangsu Province, northwest of Shanghai. It's the only source of the purple clay used to create these beautiful teapots. The clay is recognised the world over for its superior qualities in regard to teaware, as it is porous and excellent at retaining heat due to the iron, quartz and mica it contains.
It is said that these delightful teapots absorb the flavours from each pot of tea and that after time, all one needs to do is add hot water to the pot for the perfect tea! For this reason, we recommend that heavily flavoured teas are not used in these pots. Rather, they are ideal for green teas and oolongs. However, if you drink solely black tea from them, they would also be suitable.
Yixing pots date back to the Sung Dynasty (960-1279), although the oldest surviving Yixing pot dates back to 1533 and is on display in the NanJing museum. Over time, the artists have improved and perfected the pots which are fired at high temperatures but left unglazed.
World Par-Tea has selected a stunningly simple Yixing pot, with a capacity of 200ml, which is the traditional size. It comes with two dainty 50ml Yixing teacups, which are glazed white on the inside for increased strength and so the true colour of the tea liquor may be appreciated.
